Skin diving is the focus of new local TV showA new, monthly TV show on freediving and spearfishing, "Hawaii Skin Diver," premieres next week on Oceanic Time Warner Cable's local channel OC16. The locally produced, 30-minute show will premiere a week from Friday, on June 4, at 9 p.m., and will repeat five times a week each month (Saturday at 5 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.; Sunday at 10:30 p.m.; Monday at 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.) Hawaiian Host has already signed as a sponsor. "There's no place better than Hawaii to originate a dive show," said producer Kyle Nakamoto of Red Sea Ocean Adventures. "It is our passion to use it as a vehicle to reach the younger generation and teach them about becoming good stewards of the sea." Host Merlinda Garma, Miss Honolulu 2003, will take viewers on a monthly 30-minute underwater adventure featuring freediving and spearfishing in Hawaii as well as exotic destinations throughout the world. "Hawaii Skin Diver" will cover local dive tournaments, share tips and spotlight leaders in the dive industry. The inaugural episode will feature Hanalei Adric, Kalei Hina and Jason Hijirida on a recent trip to Niihau and will showcase Jay and Julie Riffe of Riffe International, the world's manufacturing leader of spearguns and accessories.
