Nixon to host Poker and Spearfishing Mixed Game in Fiji

With the popularity of poker reaching a global scale, and the popularity of mixed games (like the H.O.R.S.E. event at the WSOP) also expanding, the two have come together in a very odd way on the island of Tavarua, Fiji. Popular watch maker, Nixon, will be hosting the invitation only High Tide Hold Em event that will give participants an opportunity to match not only their poker skills, but their spearfishing, tennis, and surfing skills. The event will last for seven days, February 8-16, and is obviously geared as an outlet for "extreme sports" athletes, although who wouldnt want to see Gavin Smith or Kathy Liebert in a bathing suit and on a surfboard.

Destructive fishing practices

All fishing methods/practices have an impact on the target resource and may affect also non-target species. Many of them also have an impact on the wider aquatic environment. The "normal" effect of exploitation should not be confused with "destruction".

Probably the most debated item amongst spearo’s is the guns that they use. Many divers will swear by one brand whilst other will swear AT that same brand!! What must be remembered though is that ultimately it’s not the gun, but the skill of the diver that makes him successful. So let us enter the minefield of spearguns!!
